Why would I choose nutmeg with shell instead of without?
Why would I choose nutmeg with shell instead of without?
The shell acts as nature's protective packaging. It seals in the essential oils and aromatic compounds, keeping the nutmeg kernel fresher for much longer during storage.
Savvy buyers who want to stock up or hold nutmeg for extended periods choose the with-shell option because they can crack the shell just before use, ensuring maximum freshness and flavor every time.
It's also typically more economical than shell-free nutmeg.
How do I crack the shell to get to the nutmeg inside?
How do I crack the shell to get to the nutmeg inside?
The shell is relatively easy to crack. You can use a nutcracker, the flat side of a knife, or even gently tap it with a hammer or heavy object.
The shell will split to reveal the nutmeg kernel inside, which you can then grate as needed.
It is recommended to only crack each Nutmeg just before use.
How long will nutmeg with shell stay fresh?
How long will nutmeg with shell stay fresh?
Nutmeg with the shell intact can stay fresh for up to 2 years when stored in a cool, dry place.
The shell protects the kernel from air, light, and moisture, all of which degrade the essential oils over time.
Customers from the Netherlands have mentioned loving DRUERA nutmeg with shell "for many years" because the taste remains wonderful.
Once you crack the shell, use the kernel within a reasonable timeframe or store it properly.
Is this nutmeg organic?
Is this nutmeg organic?
DRUERA nutmeg is grown wild in the hill country of central Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and is free of pesticides and herbicides.
While it may not carry official organic certification, the wild-grown nature of these spices means they are cultivated without synthetic chemicals.
The nutmeg trees grow naturally in Sri Lanka's ideal climate, producing high-quality spice without agricultural interventions.
What sizes are available, and which should I choose?
What sizes are available, and which should I choose?
DRUERA offers two sizes: 4 oz (114g) and 1 lb (453g). If you're new to using whole nutmeg or only use it occasionally, the 4 oz size is a good starting point.
If you cook frequently, bake during the holidays, or want to take advantage of the extended shelf life that the shell provides, the 1 lb size offers better value and ensures you'll have fresh nutmeg on hand for years.

Excellent smell n great flavour. Highly recommend it
I ordered 1lb Nutmeg in a Shell and it arrived sooner than I expected. Unfortunately, the label states Nutmeg without Shell. It looks like it is in a shell but, to be certain I emailed Druera. They never responded to my inquiry so I only give them 4 stars.
We love all our products from druera . They are fresh and the taste is very good
I am very happy with your products and service.
